The end of 2019 brought an unexpected anxiety for the entire world. The unknown pandemic had engulfed the globe and everywhere the atmosphere of anxiety prevailed. The lockdown brought lives to a halt.

The most-awaited solution that the entire world was looking at was Vaccination.
With the advent of two Vaccines in Bharat, the confidence lost to this unknown devil is returning.

Imagine the world hundred years ago...
When people were prey to innumerable diseases and the preventive vaccines were not within the reach of common man!!!

The previous Congress Governments did chart out a plan for Vaccinations but unfortunately never created the will to implement it across length and breadth of the country. The entire Vaccination module remained limited to the urban and educated population and a large section of the population residing in remote and rural areas had neither the knowledge nor the access to it.

The scenario started changing when Narendra Modi ji led government came to govern in 2014.

Mission Indradhanush was launched on 25th December 2014 under the Ministry of Health, led by the then Health Minister, J.P. Nadda with the aim at 90% full immunisation coverage of Bharat.

Vaccinations were provided nationally against eight vaccine-preventable diseases - diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, measles, a severe form of childhood tuberculosis, hepatitis B, meningitis, and pneumonia caused by haemophilus influenza type B and against rotavirus diarrhea and Japanese encephalitis in selected states and districts respectively.

The ultimate goal of Mission Indradhanush is to ensure full immunisation with all available vaccines for children upto two years of age and pregnant women.

The Government has identified 600 high focus districts across 28 states in the country that have the highest number of partially immunised and unimmunised children.

201 districts were covered in the first phase. Of these, 82 districts are in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

201 districts selected had nearly 50% of all unvaccinated children in the country.
The mission follows planning and administration methods like PPI (Pulse Polio Immunisation).

Four phases of Mission Indradhanush have been conducted till August 2017 and more than 2.53 crore children and 68 lakh pregnant women have been vaccinated.

To further intensify the immunisation drive on mission mode, Hon. Prime Minister launched the intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) in October 2017 with the aim of achieving the Sustainable Development Goal of ending preventable child deaths by 2030.

The Ministry of Women and Child Development, Panchayati Raj, Ministry of Urban Development, and the Ministry of Youth Affairs have come together to ensure that the benefits of vaccines reach the last man.

A total of six phases of Mission Indradhanush have been completed, covering 554 districts across the country.

It has also been identified as one of the flagship schemes under the Gram Swaraj Abhiyan.

The Government of Bharat has rolled out an Electronic Vaccine Intelligence Network (eVIN) that digitises the entire vaccine stock management, their logistics, and temperature tracking at all levels of Vaccine storage - from national to sub-district.

This facility enables the programme managers to have a real time view of the vaccine stock position and their storage temperature across all cold chain points, providing a detailed overview of the vaccine.
Mission Indradhanush may be regarded as one of the key schemes of the NDA Government.

‘Every life matters’ is the motto carved on the Hon. Prime Minister’s soul.

This conviction was affirmed during the unusual situation of COVID pandemic. The entire nation remained under strict lockdown for over two months, with most economic activities at a standstill and the country’s treasury suffering huge loss.

The Modi ji led government directed its colossal machinery to providing basic necessities for the underprivileged who lost their source of income.

This bitter but essential step resulted in a controlled death rate as compared to other far more developed nations with much equipped medical facilities.

Despite Bharat being a highly populated nation, the task was achieved as a result of strong belief in saving every life.

Bharatiya scientists have successfully created the much awaited vaccination for COVID.

This mammoth achievement could not have been possible without the inspiring political will of the Hon. Prime Minister.

Similar to the dedicated Vaccination drive, the idea of ‘healthy life is nation’s pride’ is becoming a reality with the impactful implementation of Mission Indradhanush.
