Bharat, is a young and youthful nation with demographic advantage of 65% of total population belonging to the working age. (18 to 60).

To enrich such a colossal population with appropriate opportunities for their growth, it is essential to promote various skills hidden among people. The entire workforce absorbed in jobs for livelihood doesn’t project a healthy scenario of a growth machine. It is equally important to tap the talents from various fields.

Sports and Physical Education play a crucial role in all-round development of the youth.

In the first parliamentary session of the 16th LokSabha, The Hon. President of Bharat lay emphasis on creating new avenues of recreation that would develop the young generation constructively and keep them fit. In the speech, projecting the newly elected Modi Government‘s vision to facilitate development and promotion of Bharatiya sports, particularly rural sports.

It is therefore essential to give adequate thrust to Sports development so that it could permeate  through other aspects of Social life and make the youth health conscious, positive and productive.

For promoting excellence in Sports, it is important to catch them young and teach them rightly through Scientific training methods. Sporting talent and nurturing them in a methodical manner, not only trains them to be physically fit but also inculcates values of team spirit, hard work, dedication, fighting spirit and above all coolness and compassion in the moments of defeat.

If these values are instilled at a young age, they enhance a person's Emotional Quotient too.

National Sports Talent Search Scheme (NSTSS)- Rashtriya Khel Pratibha Khoj was implemented in 2017.

The major objective of NSTSS is to provide an appropriate platform to the emerging talent so they can fulfil their dreams and go ahead at the national and the international level.

Under this scheme, the student in the age group of 8-12 years is selected after undergoing the physical efficiency and Sports aptitude test. The test includes, (a) 30 meter run (flying start) (b) Standing broad jump (c) 6 X meter Shuttle run (d) Forward Bend & Reach (e) Medicine Ball put and (f) 600 meter run for boys and girls.

The student is imparted training according to their interest in the said game, for which 1000 boys and 1000 girls are selected across the nation.

Under the training program a scholarship of Rs. Five Lakhs is also made available to each student and it is given to the selected student every year for next 8 years. This scholarship money is utilised for training purposes.


The portal can be accessed in multiple  Bharatiya languages. After logging on the website, the student has to create his/her profile and enter the required information. After choosing the option of NTSS on the website, Sports Authority of India (SAI) will take things forward and assist the applicant student.

Along with SAI, the admissions for upcoming Sports talents can be made at Junior Sports Academies, State Sports Academies/Sports hostels.

If a student is unable to register for the scheme or is disqualified in the aptitude & physical test,  she or he can register again after 6 months.

The applicant students age lies between 8 to 12 years and those in class 4th  to 6th.

The NTSS would be entitled for training in 1.) Swimming 2.) Volleyball 3.) Handball 4.) Gymnastics 5.) Softball 6.) Sepak takraw 7.) Karate 8.) Kayaking and Canoeing 9.) Kho-Kho 10.) Badminton 11.) Shooting 12).) Mukna 13.) Table Tennis 14.) Silambam 15.) Teakwondo 16.) Football 17.) Athletics 18.) Gatka 19.) Weight Lifting 20.) Judo 21.) Boxing 22.) Kabbadi 23.) Hockey 24.) Fencing 25.) Wrestling 26.) Cycling 27.)  Archery 28.)  Wushu. 29.) Cricket

Ayushmann was a young boy of 8, living in a small town of Jharkhand.

Cricket was his passion and he dreamt of excelling in the sport and making a career. His parents found this trend and his deep interest in the game as a waste of time. They strongly advised him to concentrate more on education as that would shape his career and future. The confused boy was heartbroken for not being able to locate any support to further his talent. But, his school teacher grasped his dedication in Cricket and helped him apply for a scholarship under PradhanMantri National Sports Talent Search Scheme. Now Ayushmann’s horizons have widened and he is on the path of shining in his chosen vocation.

Rural sports, an area of sports that truly needed aid, can avail a proper help and government‘s focus through this initiative. This scheme would boost the entire sports arena as it would be easier for blooming sportsperson to acquire necessary fostering  as well as easier for authorities to locate such talents.

There are innumerable Jewels in an unpolished state, hidden in remote areas of the nation. Through this scheme of National Talent Search, those jewels will get a chance to glitter and bring pride for the Motherland.
